The Galena City Council approved May 20 a request from the fire department to remove a parking stall located in front of a fire hydrant near 527 South Main Street.
A councilmember said removing the stall was consistent with safety needs and would improve fire department access. Other councilmembers observed that recent agenda items had reduced on‑street parking in multiple locations and suggested the council consider a broader parking policy discussion — including overnight permits for Bench Street residents and other targeted measures — to manage cumulative losses in downtown parking supply.
The motion to remove the stall passed by roll call. Staff will update signage and enforcement as required.
