Council approves corporate liquor license for Main Street brewery

The Galena City Council approved May 20 an application for a class D and class I corporate liquor license for Burch Brewhouse LLC, doing business at 227 North Main Street.
A councilmember asked whether the residency requirement listed on the application applied to the individual applicant or to the corporation. Staff explained a corporate liquor license applies to the corporation and not the individual, and that the corporation may list a personal address for the applicant; the councilmember said she wanted clearer language in the application packet stating the business address is within Galena and how the residency requirement applies.
Councilmembers noted the applicant has worked at the location as brewmaster for six or seven years, and there was no other substantive objection on the record. The council moved and seconded the application and approved it by roll call vote.
The council did not amend licensing rules at the meeting; one councilmember suggested staff consider clarifying application forms to better explain residency and corporate license distinctions.
