Board approves curriculum items, summer AAPI course and technology contracts; district applies for screening grant

The West Windsor-Plainsboro board approved a package of curriculum items that included a new summer Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) studies course, textbook adoptions, professional development and several one-year digital-licensing agreements for the 2025–26 school year.
The curriculum committee described the AAPI summer course as a first-time offering focused on identity, power, solidarity and representation. The committee recommended, and the board approved, submission of the district's comprehensive equity plan for review. The board approved one-year agreements with vendors for K–5 math and assessment tools and middle-school science digital materials: DreamBox Learning (K–5 math) at a not-to-exceed cost of $66,735.75; Riverside Insights COGAT online licensing at $24,675.20; Explorer Learning Gizmos for science at $21,851.40; and Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) MAP assessments at approximately $92,700 through June 30, 2026.
The curriculum committee also recommended overnight field trips and textbook adoptions. The board approved an FBLA trip to Anaheim, California (June 28–July 3) at about $2,100 per student and a cheerleading camp in Greeley, Pa., at about $350 per student. Textbook adoptions recommended for AP Environmental Science and AP Biology include recently published editions from Bedford, Freeman & Worth and other publishers as listed in committee materials.
Professional development approvals included multiple Advanced Placement Summer Institutes (APSI) sessions for AP teachers with per-person costs largely under $1,200. Separately, the district applied for a New Jersey Department of Education grant to fund comprehensive universal screeners (FOCUS) to support MTSS for grades K–3, requesting $21,740 to be used from July 1 through June 30, 2026.
Committee members said these items support expanded assessment and instructional tools; detailed contract language and final invoices will be subject to standard procurement review and the annual budget process.
