Galena council corrects zoning table clerical errors; first reading waived

The Galena City Council voted May 20 to approve a text amendment to the zoning ordinance correcting clerical errors in table 154.403.0.1(b) and (g), which had altered which land uses are permitted by right or require special‑use approval.
City planning staff told the council the errors occurred when the land‑use table was recreated during the adoption of the city’s cannabis regulations and that copy‑and‑paste mistakes mistakenly changed permissions for some uses in agricultural and other zoning districts. The amendment restores the table to its prior, intended formatting while leaving the cannabis land‑use entries that were deliberately added.
Councilmembers asked whether the correction would materially change permitted uses on any mapped parcels; staff said it would not change pending requests or approvals and that no applications had been reported as affected by the clerical error. The council approved the text amendment and then approved the first reading of the ordinance and waived the second reading by a roll‑call vote.
The action was listed as zoning calendar 25A‑03 and ordinance item 25C‑0219 in the council packet. Staff said the highlighted entries in the table that remain will continue to show cannabis uses where intended, while entries with strike lines will be removed from the listed districts.
No appeals, variances or other applications were reported as affected at the meeting; staff said routine public notices and standard public hearings would apply to any future rezoning or subdivision actions that depend on alignment with the corrected table.
