Duval School construction advancing; board discusses timeline and possible student move

Board members heard a construction update for the Duval School during the May 27 meeting and discussed timing for student moves and community events related to the project.
District staff reported that footers are about 90% complete and that walls for the gym, the elevator shaft and the stairwell have been erected. “The footers are about 90% done. You can see the walls on the gym have come up, the elevator shaft, the stairwell,” a district presenter said, noting positive meetings with the general contractor and steady progress so long as weather cooperates.
Trustees discussed possible timing for moving students and staff into the new facility. The district said if work stays on schedule the target occupancy is November 2026 and the board may consider extending the Christmas break or otherwise adjusting calendars to facilitate the move. The district also said it plans a ribbon-cutting once the site is safe and accessible, and that students and staff from both sending schools would be invited.
Board members asked about disposition of existing furniture and equipment; staff said surplus items are sometimes sold on the auction platform GovDeals or donated to other organizations.
The update came alongside other operational items at the meeting, including the FY2026 budget discussion and a report on summer professional development (summer academy) for staff; the superintendent’s office said more than 100 staff members had already signed up for the paid summer academy at Lincoln County High School.
