Bonner County commissioners adopt May 20 election canvas; report 31.1% turnout

The Bonner County Board of Commissioners on May 29 unanimously adopted the canvass of the May 20, 2025 county election, after County Clerk Rosedale told the board the tally shows a 31.1% voter turnout and that staff resolved all overvotes.
"We had an overall 31.1% voter turnout," County Clerk Rosedale said, and described the canvass process and precinct activity. Rosedale told commissioners 27 of the county's 30 precincts were active on election day; Hope, Clark Fork and Humbert had no ballots because those precincts had no contests.
Rosedale explained how the county handled ballots with marking errors: "An overvote ... doesn't count as a vote at all," she said, and added the elections team was able to resolve every overvote with help from local district representatives. She also noted the canvass showed a number of undervotes, meaning voters left a race blank.
The clerk provided a brief summary of local contest outcomes included in the canvass, saying that some local levies and measures passed while others did not. Rosedale cited examples discussed in the summary: the City of Pend Oreille local option property tax passed; north-side and west-side fire levies did not pass; Sago Fire Protection did not pass; Spirit Lake Fire Protection passed; West Bonner School District passed; West Bonner cemetery measure did not meet the required percentage; and Lakeland Joint School District passed. Rosedale framed those items as results reflected in the combined county and neighboring-county returns.
After the clerk's report, a commissioner moved "to adopt the 05/20/2025 Bonner County election canvas presented by Clerk Rosedale." The motion was seconded and the board carried the canvass by roll call: Commissioner Ford, yes; Commissioner Gagne, yes; Commissioner Williams, yes.
Commissioner Williams asked that his stamp be used on the canvass documents before the clerk finalized the record. With the roll call completed and no further questions, the board adjourned.
The adoption formalizes the county's official review of the May 20 election returns; the clerk and staff will complete any remaining administrative steps required to finalize the certified record.
