Board approves two labor agreements covering classified and administrative support staff

The Prosser School District board approved two collective bargaining agreements covering classified and administrative support staff.
Board members voted to approve a two-year agreement with the Public School Employees (PSE) of Washington and a three-year agreement with the Prosser Association of Educational Office Professionals (PAEOP). The board approved both agreements by voice vote after members moved and seconded the motions.
District negotiators described the talks as collaborative. "In every negotiation you give and get. Some of the things that I feel was a good compromise ... we worked on things like tools, we worked on things like, trying to make sure wording was such that personal leave could be used accordingly," a district representative said. The PAEOP agreement covered issues such as comp time, extended hours and aligning benefit structures between year-round district office employees and building administrative assistants.
Board members expressed appreciation for the bargaining teams. The agreements were approved without amendments at the meeting; the board did not attach additional conditions.
