Board approves out-of-state travel for Prosser FFA students to national convention

The Prosser School District board approved out-of-state travel for Prosser FFA students to attend the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis after the district's AgMEC team placed first at the state competition and qualified for nationals.
"What we had this year was, the AgMEC team placed first at state, and so they qualified for nationals," said the speaker presenting the request. The board approved the travel by voice vote. The motion to approve "out of state travel for Prosser FFA students to the national FFA convention" was moved, seconded and carried after members signified their support by saying "aye."
District staff told the board the travel costs will be covered by FFA funds and fundraising, and that some qualifying students are seniors who have plans after graduation. Presenters said five students qualified for a four-person team; one or more members have college plans and the team has contingency plans. "It is a team of 4, but we do have 5 members that qualified," the presenter said.
No board member recorded a roll-call tally; the item was approved by voice vote. The board did not attach additional conditions to the approval.
