City manager outlines packed summer calendar, notes Festival Foods funds July 4 fireworks

City Manager Michael Moore told the Fond du Lac City Council on May 28 that the city and community groups have a full slate of summer events and encouraged the council to use centralized calendars for details.
Moore listed seasonal highlights including the Dock Spiders' home schedule, a series of Thelma concerts, Art on the Island, Walleye Weekend, pool openings, Music Under the Stars and the Buttermilk festivals. He said many city departments provide behind-the-scenes support for those events, including public works, police and fire.
Moore said, "I mean, it's kind of hard to imagine, isn't it? I mean, it's been forever since you couldn't drive all the way around the loop there by the lake." He warned that closing the pavilion bridge for construction will disrupt bicycling, walking and driving patterns and that the city will provide notices.
Notable dates and items Moore mentioned: the Dock Spiders will play an expanded home schedule; Thelma concerts will run across the summer (he estimated 13 or 14 shows); Art on the Island is scheduled for the coming Sunday; Walleye Weekend was described as starting "a week from Friday" (relative to the council meeting); Taylor Park Pool and Fairgrounds Pool opening dates were described relative to that same timeline; a fundraiser recognizing local "heroes" (fire, police and sheriff) is scheduled for Friday, June 13 and last year delivered $8,000 to individual departments; two large concerts with original lead singers from Chicago and Boston are scheduled for June 14; night markets return beginning Thursday, June 26; the Father's Day car show and breakfast on the farm were highlighted; and fireworks will be on Friday, July 4.
Moore said, "Festival Foods underwrites that whole show," estimating the fireworks cost at "like, 25 to 30 k." He also recommended Destination Lake Winnebago's calendar as a consolidated source for event listings and noted the recreation department's summer guide is available as a PDF and in print.
Council members and staff added event details. Alderman Godfrey stated that Ebony Vision's Juneteenth event is June 14 at Buttermilk Creek Park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. President Peralt and library staff also used the presentation to highlight library programs, including a local history-book reveal paid with ARPA funds and a summer reading program. The library's book-bike and a partnership with Fond du Lac Transit to provide bus rides to the library for children with a library card were mentioned.
The briefing was informational; no formal council action was taken. Moore said event organizers are populating public calendars and the city will publish notices as closures or major changes occur.
