Board approves five-year mass-notification contract with FinalSite; adds text and multilingual options
Murfreesboro City Schools’ board approved a contract with FinalSite for mass notifications — voice, text and email — in a motion approved at the May 27 meeting. The agreement covers five one-year terms with automatic annual renewal and a total potential cost of $77,520 over five years; the district may terminate with 90 days’ written notice before the end of any one-year term.
Staff presented FinalSite as a functional upgrade rather than a cost-saving move: the platform will replace the district’s current service and introduce text messaging for parents who opt in, plus multilingual messaging options. "It does give us the option to do multilingual, and so that is was one of the things that we considered when we purchased this," staff said when answering a board question.
When a board member asked whether the recorded voice would remain the district announcer Lisa Trail, staff responded, "I think she's in the studio, but yes. It will still be Lisa Trail's voice." Funding for year one will come from FY26 general purpose funds.
Motions to approve were made and seconded; the item passed by voice vote with no recorded opposition in the transcript. The contract allows text-message outreach if parents opt in and district staff emphasized the improved ease-of-use and functionality for principals and central office.
No implementation timeline was given beyond the funding source for the first-year payment and the 90-day termination provision. Staff said they would replace the existing service and proceed with onboarding for principals and communications staff.
