The policy establishes a requirement that the director of schools draft an administrative directive implementing the policy and aligning district procedures with guidance jointly issued by the Tennessee Departments of Education and Health.
Miss Bush, presenting the action item, told the board: "This is a new policy adoption regarding student health services. We have a new state law, public chapter 165, that requires at least one full-time employee who is not a school nurse be trained annually in seizure safety and first aid." The staff recommendation was "to approve board policy 6.401, student health services on first reading."
Mister Suttles moved approval and Miss Richardson seconded; the measure passed by voice vote with the chair calling for "all in favor" and noting "any opposition? And there is none." The board did not record a roll-call tally in the meeting minutes for this item.
The approved first-reading policy directs the director of schools to produce an administrative directive describing how the training and delegation will be implemented in each school; that directive will be presented under the policy's direction for future oversight.
