Local rescue Hearts of Gold asks community for donations and adopters

Tammy Goldberry, founder of Hearts of Gold Animal Haven, told KWCD that her 501(c)(3) rescue operates primarily out of her home and focuses on puppies and young dogs, often taking animals transferred from Sierra Vista Animal Control.
“We get the animals spayed, neutered, microchipped, rabies shots, all their parvo and distemper shots, and any medical treatment that they need,” Goldberry said. She described cases requiring surgery and extended care and asked the public for in-kind donations such as food, blankets and toys.
Goldberry described several dogs currently available for adoption, including a German Shepherd, a schnauzer–husky mix, a cattle dog and a lab mix named “Booger,” whom she said recovered from distemper after being rescued from a cemetery in Douglas.
She directed listeners to the group’s website (heartsofgold.org) and its Facebook page, Hearts of Gold Animal Haven, for photos and adoption information. Goldberry also said the group maintains an Amazon wish list for donated supplies and that volunteers who pass background checks and training are welcome. She noted that the rescue receives no government funding and relies on community donations and small grants.
