Kavanaugh Marine to mobilize June 9 for cathodic‑protection work at city pier, RDA says

The Fall River Redevelopment Authority reported May 28 that Kavanaugh Marine has been awarded the cathodic‑protection contract for the city pier and will mobilize on or about the week of June 9 to begin work.
Karen Martin, project manager, said the contractor held a kickoff meeting May 13 and will perform most activity from a workboat so there will be no staging on City Pier or 600 Duval Street. Martin said coatings and above‑water knuckle weld work will begin once materials arrive, with anodes scheduled to arrive the week of June 9 and diver work to follow.
Why it matters: cathodic protection and coating repair are intended to preserve pier steel and avoid more disruptive repairs in the future. Martin told the authority the contractor provided required insurance and performance/payment bonds and that submittals had been approved.
Logistics and schedule: Martin said the contractor does not expect to park work vehicles on the pier and will stage equipment at a nearby boat launch area; most materials will be brought and removed by boat daily. She said coating materials were expected to arrive at the end of the week and that the anodes would arrive and installation begin the week of June 9.
