Public Safety Committee forms Prop S subcommittee to score youth-program applications

At a St. Louis City Public Safety Committee meeting, members formed a Prop S subcommittee that will score applications and advise on allocation of Prop S funds distributed through the Office of Violence Prevention. The subcommittee will consist of every member of the Public Safety Committee.

Chair Narayan moved to create the subcommittee and the motion was seconded; a request for a previous roll was made and, hearing no objection, members confirmed the subcommittee’s formation. The chair said a grading sheet requested previously by the committee has been received and will be circulated to subcommittee members. The committee said it plans to adjourn the public meeting and immediately convene the subcommittee afterward to score applications, with the aim of moving funds to organizations with “some expediency.”

Prop S was described in committee as funding administered through the Office of Violence Prevention for youth programming. Committee members asked whether anyone wished to testify; no public speakers or written testimony were offered during this meeting on Prop S applications. The chair asked subcommittee members to review the score sheet before the next public safety meeting.

As part of general announcements, the chair thanked members of the police and fire departments who have been working 12-hour shifts for nearly two weeks. The committee then excused Alderman Oldenburg for a necessary absence and adjourned.
