Matt, staff member, said the original executed approvals showed a higher figure but that a prior deduct left an available balance of roughly $400,000. He asked the commission to approve $600,000 so staff would have room to cover expected OPM hours and modest rate changes through the summer without returning immediately for minor increases.
Commission discussion favored a reasonably sized authorization rather than a large, speculative ceiling. "I think to put such a big bucket out there... that needs to be project by project," said one commissioner, while others agreed that $600,000 strikes a balance between flexibility and fiscal oversight.
The commission voted to approve the $600,000 authorization. Commissioners Chiafrito, Commissioner McAvoy, Commissioner Tony Economo and others recorded affirmative votes during the roll call.
Staff indicated they expect OPM hours to increase as projects move from design to construction and said they will return with specific change-order requests if additional funds are required for particular projects.
