Commission hears MWRTA ridership growth, service extensions and July schedule changes

Commission staff reported May 28 that MWRTA microtransit service (CatchConnect) delivered 7,499 trips in April in the Framingham service area and that demand-response completed trips were also substantial for the month.
Vice Chair Tyler Tarasini said the service operates weekday evenings and weekends and noted that extended evening hours begin July 1. He also said the authority launched a new 495 connector service to improve commuter-rail connections between Franklin, Southborough and Worcester-area stops; the connector links to the Framingham–Worcester line and serves Southborough and Milford.
Tarasini reminded commissioners that microtransit trips are counted as single trips (one way) and that passengers should expect shared-ride conditions, not on-demand taxi service. He said the RTA and partner operators are working on additional connectivity options that could expand transfer opportunities to Worcester-area services in the future.
Commissioners asked staff to confirm specifics about transfer connections and to verify demand-response reporting numbers for April.
