The Portland Public Schools Board of Education received a first reading on May 19 of proposed revisions to Policy 1.20.012‑P, which addresses student representatives and the district student council.
Director Benmayer introduced the proposed edits and said the policy committee recommended the revisions. He described two substantive changes: a revised threshold for students to receive credit tied to district academic staff input, and an adjustment to how representation from each school is determined, a change requested by the district student council.
The district said the revised policy text will be posted on the board website and the public comment period will run a minimum of 21 days. Contact information for public comment will appear with the posted policy. Staff said the board expects to hold a second reading and vote on June 10.
Ending: No vote was taken at the May 19 first reading. The board directed staff to post the proposed revisions for public comment and return the matter for a second reading and vote on June 10.
