An ordinance to change the zoning classification of a vacant parcel at 13570 Fallingwater Road from shopping center to motorist service was placed on second reading and a public hearing was set for July 14, Strongsville City Council announced May 19.
During audience participation, resident Ken Tocco told council he opposed a proposed hotel adjacent to the Goddard School and said the parcel had previously been denied rezoning in 2013 by both the planning commission and council. Tocco cited traffic increases, light and noise pollution and proximity to the childcare center as reasons the rezoning would be inappropriate.
Law Director Jamieson later explained that any property owner may petition to have their property rezoned and that prior denials do not bar a later applicant from seeking the same change. He said the process includes a public hearing in which proponents and opponents may present arguments and that council would make a later decision after hearing public input.
Ordinance No. 2025-53, as read into the record, names the parcel by address and permanent parcel number 39614015 and will remain in committee with the public hearing scheduled for July 14. No final vote on rezoning was taken at the May 19 meeting.
What happens next: the public hearing on July 14 will allow proponents and opponents to present to council before a final vote on the rezoning question.
