Miss Cook, the French teacher proposing the international trip, said the two-week itinerary would include Geneva, five days with host families vetted by the Language and Friendship program, a train to Paris and regional sightseeing. She said about 17 Pulaski students had expressed interest so far and that the district is partnering with Bayport High School to expand opportunities.
The FFA advisor described a June 16–18 retreat in Mountain, Wisconsin, where students will plan the upcoming school year, do leadership and team-building exercises, and prepare the program calendar; the advisor said "there are no costs to the kids" for that trip.
The band director presented a Philadelphia trip timed to coincide with July 4 celebrations and the 250th anniversary events; he said the parade is July 3 and estimated the per-student cost at "around $2,000, give or take." Administrators and boosters described fundraising options and said they work to ensure finances are not a barrier for students.
Each trip was approved by a motion and second and carried by voice vote. Board members asked routine logistical questions about chaperones, fundraising and which grade levels could participate; presenters said incoming high-school freshmen and outgoing seniors would be eligible for the Philadelphia trip, and that host families for the French trip are vetted by the travel company.
