Residents press commissioners for clear road‑paving schedule as contractor work begins

Several residents used the public-comment period to press the Baldwin County Board of Commissioners for clearer public notice about the county’s road-paving schedule and to complain about perceived favoritism in how paving priorities were set.

District representatives and residents said some roads that remain in poor condition had not been listed publicly, and urged the county to republish the TSPLOST (transportation special purpose local option sales tax) map that showed which rows were scheduled and the order of work. “All we ask for is the final product. Hey Baldwin County, here's your list of roads. Here’s the order. Once that road gets done, turn green on the map,” one speaker said.

County staff responded that the contractor was scheduled to start June 1 and that the county would use Facebook, the county newsletter and the county website to post weekly updates on which rows were being worked each week. Staff acknowledged ongoing base and utility work in neighborhoods such as Oconee Heights and said there are constraints because utility relocations under grants (RAISE, CDBG) may require additional pavement work later.

Commissioners and staff also discussed methods to inform residents in advance and to post signage about temporary conditions such as loose gravel during utility work. No formal change to the paving prioritization was made at the meeting; commissioners reiterated that staff would publish weekly progress notices during the paving season.
