City management provided a construction update at the May council meeting outlining a phased schedule for work east of Africa Road and on Polaris Parkway.
City staff said Africa Road will reopen after current paving work and remain open through Memorial Day week, then close again on June 2 at the Polaris intersection to allow sanitary sewer connections. The city said the Polaris work will require a two-lane eastbound closure from Median Way to Polaris Woods for about five days while crews connect to the sanitary sewer; access to Africa Road for local traffic and commercial services will be maintained during that phase.
Why it matters: the work is part of infrastructure and development activity in the East of Africa project area; residents and commuters should expect intermittent closures and are advised to check the city’s updates.
City management emphasized the schedule remains weather-dependent and directed residents to the city’s website for updates. “Once the paving is completed later this week, Africa Road will reopen and will remain open until June 2,” the manager said during the meeting, adding that crews will then “start doing some work on Polaris” and that the city will “work very hard to make sure that the road's open Memorial Day and Fourth of July.”
The city also noted the East of Africa area is part of broader infrastructure work tied to planned economic development; staff said they will post schedule updates and traffic notices at Westerville.org/goWesterville and on the city's social media channels.
