Megan, director of the Lynn Senior Center, told the Council on Aging that the center expects to receive a vehicle that will accommodate two wheelchairs and has a lower boarding threshold to help people with limited mobility access rides more easily.
"With the support of public health, it looks like we're going to have a vehicle that accommodates 2 wheelchairs," Megan said, and added staff have been reviewing the ramp, folding procedure and interior seating to ensure drivers can operate it safely.
Megan said she met with a city contact to review ramp logistics and has asked staff to explore adding a grab bar at the top of the ramp and to confirm the number of regular seats available. "I'm asking about the number of seats that are actually available in the vehicle because we have some seniors that have some mobility challenges," she said.
The center reported transportation remains heavily used: Megan said the center provided 484 rides last month and uses the van for home pickup and drop-off as well as monthly outings. She noted the center rents a bus for casino trips and will not use the new van for those longer trips.
