Representative Zaring (sponsor) asked the committee to authorize the legislative auditor to study the efficiency, financial accountability and effectiveness of the state Supreme Court, courts of appeals and district courts. The sponsor said parts of the original draft duplicated activities the auditor already conducts and offered an amendment to shorten the resolution and remove redundant clauses; staff described a printed amendment with technical edits and a reporting‑date change from Feb. 6, 2026, to April 1, 2026.
"Those items that were eliminated, the legislative auditor is already doing those," Representative Zaring said, explaining the amendment narrows the request to avoid redundancy. The committee adopted the amendments without objection and Representative Zaring moved the measure favorably as amended; the committee recorded no objections and the resolution was reported.
The sponsor told the chairman he will furnish the committee a copy of the auditor's study when completed. The amended resolution asks the legislative auditor to deliver a report to the legislature by April 1, 2026.
