Churchill County trustees approve 10-year use, maintenance agreement with Fallon Hornets for East Richard Street baseball field

The Churchill County School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously to enter a 10-year use and maintenance agreement with the Fallon Hornets Baseball Club for the district-owned baseball field at 965 East Richard Street.
Superintendent Daryl Parsons told trustees the district has not maintained the field for about a decade and the Hornets offered to fully restore and maintain it at no cost to the district. “They will provide all the labor, all the equipment, everything. They will maintain it with the water and the electricity that's over there. They'll maintain insurance on it, and list the district as a secondary on that for liability insurance,” Parsons said. He recommended approval, adding: “I would recommend that we do this because if you've gone over there and seen the weeds, this will take care of that.”
Parsons said the club plans to privately fund restoration, install a new scoreboard, repair buildings and address parking and lighting. He said the field already has separate meters for power and water, allowing utilities to be placed in the club’s name. The agreement also requires the club to provide annual verification of insurance and to make the facility available for district teams and tournaments.
A representative of the Fallon Hornets clarified the organization's legal name for the record and noted the club’s enthusiasm for returning the field to community use. The board called for the motion, received a second, and approved the agreement; Trustee Whitaker was noted as absent from the vote but later reported by text as a yes vote.
Details recorded in the meeting packet and discussed in public comment indicate: the agreement term is 10 years, the district incurs no direct maintenance cost under the agreement, the club will carry liability insurance naming the district as additional insured, utilities will be transferred to the club’s name, and the field will be scheduled for shared use with district teams.
