The Chesapeake City Council on May 27 approved a resolution authorizing the city manager to acquire property interests, including fee simple title, leasehold interests and right‑of‑way, as well as temporary and permanent easements, by agreement or condemnation as needed for the Freeman Avenue Railroad Overpass Bridge Project.
Public Works requested the resolution to secure the land needed to construct an overpass at Freeman Avenue. Council took no public comment on the item. After a brief procedural exchange the council voted 9–0 to adopt the resolution.
Staff said the acquisitions will support the project’s right‑of‑way needs; follow‑up actions include coordination on negotiated purchases and, if necessary, eminent‑domain procedures. Council recorded no amendments to the resolution at the meeting.
