The Hudson City Council authorized the mayor to enter into a contract with an external law firm to pursue delinquent property tax collections, including notifying property owners, collecting debts and commencing legal proceedings where appropriate.
A council member explained the city solicited attorneys to work on collections and received a response from the firm identified in the meeting as Divine and Bruno (also referenced specifically as Brian Bruno). The presenting council member said the scope of work included notification, collection and, where appropriate, commencement of legal proceedings, and that the city will work with the firm to identify the list of properties to pursue.
Why it matters: The resolution gives the mayor authority to finalize a contract with an outside attorney to recover unpaid property taxes on behalf of the city. The presentation noted the attachment received with the materials was truncated and staff expect the full contract document to be included when the mayor signs the agreement.
Council members voted to authorize the mayor to engage the attorney. Staff said they are compiling a property list to provide the firm and will review the full contract document and fee schedule before final execution.
