A county presenter said the property’s auditor valuation is $129,000 and that, without the HOME repair funds, the house would risk becoming blighted.
“We would never get—no one would invest $88,000 into a $100,000 house,” a county official said when describing the rationale for using program funds for substantial repairs. The work scope discussed included roofing, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, ceiling repairs and some accessibility modifications.
Three bids were received; commissioners were asked to award to Lamp Construction for the lowest and best bid of $88,170. A motion to award the bid was made, seconded and approved by the commissioners present.
Next steps: LAMP Construction will be engaged under contract to complete the repair work; the project is intended to stabilize the house and preserve affordable, occupied housing using HOME funds administered by the county.
