Township announces MLK breakfast, veterans town hall, rabies clinic and updates on Foodbank and YMCA plans

Events and clinics - Dog rabies clinic and 2025 dog-license registration: Saturday, Jan. 11, 8 a.m.–10 a.m., at Franklin Township Bridal Shelter; dog-license payments at the clerk’s office must be by cash or check only (as announced). - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Breakfast: Monday, Jan. 20, 8:30 a.m., Doubletree Hotel (Atrium Drive). The keynote speaker will be U.S. Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman. Tickets were listed at $60 and are selling online at ftmlk.org; tickets were not available at the door, the manager said. - Veterans Town Hall: Wednesday, Jan. 22, 5:30–7:30 p.m., in the municipal building; vendors and representatives will be present in the lobby to assist with state veterans programs. Registration was required for the town hall event as announced. - Black History Month: "Underground Experience" at the Franklin Township Senior Center on Feb. 15 from 2 p.m.–6 p.m.; free but must sign up for time slots (the presentation is sponsored by county and civic groups including local chapters of fraternities/sororities).
Local initiatives and planning Councilmembers reiterated interest in two capital/land projects mentioned during comments: an expanded facility for the local Foodbank and a potential YMCA in the township; several council members said stakeholders are engaged and hope to begin related site work this year. The council also noted continuing work on job training and food security programs, and discussed a master plan traffic study for which a date remains to be determined (TBD).
Public works and technology Council discussion after a public works meeting referenced opportunities to use technology to increase efficiency in infrastructure and land-management tasks; staff will vet proposals and bring recommendations back to council.
