CSWD outlines June organizational meeting process and nomination deadlines for officer elections

Chittenden Solid Waste District staff reviewed the annual organizational meeting process and deadlines for commissioners at the May 28 board meeting, outlining how the board will hold elections for chair, vice chair, treasurer and secretary during its June organizational meeting.
"I need to receive nominations for the different positions, ahead of the packet going out for the meeting on the 25th," said Sarah Reeves, CSWD executive director, explaining that nominations submitted by email will be accepted through close of business on Friday, June 13. Reeves said nominees will be confirmed before being included in the meeting packet.
The memo in the board packet describes duties of officers, notes that the chair is automatically a member of the executive board and states that members of the executive board should be full primary commissioners (not alternates). It also explains that nominations will be accepted on the day of the meeting as well and that contested races will be handled through private ballot using a prepared Zoom protocol if needed.
Staff noted the secretary and treasurer roles can be held by a member of the public and reiterated that the treasurer traditionally chairs the finance committee. The packet asks commissioners to consider stepping forward; staff said Williston had not yet identified a primary commissioner and requested board assistance in recruiting a representative.
The organizational meeting will begin at 6 p.m. and will be followed immediately by the regular June business meeting on the same evening, staff said. The packet includes a nomination form and the memo describing the nomination and voting steps for hybrid participation.
