Franklin Township proclaims January 2025 Human Trafficking Prevention Month and Muslim Heritage Month

The Franklin Township Council at its Jan. 7 meeting read and adopted two proclamations recognizing January 2025 as Human Trafficking Prevention Month and Muslim Heritage Month.

Councilmember Alex Carazzi (as recorded in the meeting transcript) read the human trafficking proclamation, noting the township’s commitment to increasing public awareness and support for victims. The proclamation text, read into the record, described human trafficking as "a public health issue and crime that exploits the most vulnerable among us" and reaffirmed the township’s intention to encourage coordinated, community-wide responses and connect affected residents with services.

Roseanne Carvelli, who the transcript identifies as working with a prenatal addiction prevention project at Central Jersey Family Health Consortium, spoke after the proclamation and urged public awareness. She commented on the statewide pattern of trafficking and the challenges of hidden exploitation, noting that online grooming increasingly endangers adolescents and that "behind every statistic, there is a person."

The council also adopted a shorter proclamation recognizing Muslim Heritage Month.
