Ramsey introduces ordinance changing tennis and pickleball hours, adds resident-only time

The Borough of Ramsey introduced Ordinance 13-2025 on first reading May 20 to amend local rules for tennis and pickleball courts and to add good-neighbor provisions aimed at limiting noise and offensive behavior.

Administrator Bose summarized the proposed changes, saying the ordinance would "modify the hours of play on the East Oak Street Courts" and set distinct daily hours and resident-only time slots. Under the proposal, East Oak Street courts hours would change from the current 8 a.m.–9 p.m. daily to: Monday–Wednesday 8 a.m.–8 p.m.; Thursday–Friday 8 a.m.–7 p.m.; Saturday 9 a.m.–6 p.m.; Sunday 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Ramsey-resident exclusive use times would be Wednesday and Friday 4 p.m.–6 p.m. and Saturday–Sunday 9 a.m.–11 a.m.

For the Finch Park pickleball courts, the ordinance would change hours from 8 a.m.–9 p.m. daily to 8 a.m.–8 p.m. daily. Resident-exclusive times for Finch Park would be Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 9 a.m.–10:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.–6 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m.–10 a.m. and 2 p.m.–4 p.m. The draft also contains "good neighbor" provisions prohibiting excessive noise, offensive behavior and amplified music.

Councilwoman Cusick moved the introduction; the ordinance was approved on first reading by roll call and scheduled for final consideration at a June meeting. The borough clerk was directed to publish the ordinance and notice of the public hearing for final passage, as required by law.
