Rescue report: response times, Swiftwater certification and Narcan distribution noted

Lonnie Geezy delivered the rescue unit's report to the First Response Services Committee in place of Timmy Moore and summarized calls, response times and recent training.
"Right now, we've got daytime calls of 16, nighttime calls, seven," Geezy said, adding that average response time is about six minutes. He reported 109 man-hours, 13 mutual aids and specific call outcomes including eight motor vehicle accidents (with injuries), two without injuries and 10 assists to EMS.
Geezy said four members completed Swiftwater training and that the rescue unit achieved Level 1 Swiftwater compliance; the unit plans to pursue Level 2 next year. He said the group participated in an ARCAN (state) class that enabled the unit to receive Narcan to keep for personnel safety. "We all passed, successfully," Geezy said of the Swiftwater trainees. "We did that as a benefit to our mercy service personnel for us only. That way, they'll give us free Narcan to keep on us for our personnel."
Committee members asked whether rescue personnel perform medical care on lift assists or only provide nonmedical assistance. Geezy said some members have taken Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) classes but when paged they fall under the directive of the paramedic. "We do not do any medical assistance," Geezy said. He described rescue duties during lift assists as placing a patient on a cot and driving the vehicle rather than providing medical treatment.
Geezy also explained dispatch and paging practices: dispatch determines which units are paged based on the type of call and information received; if additional manpower is needed, dispatch will page rescue. He said rescue members monitor radio traffic and the eDispatch app on cell phones. The report did not include a formal motion or vote; it was an informational update for the committee.
