Manhassets Phoenix magazine earns NCTE recognition; student contributors named

ManhassetSecondary Schools student-run Phoenix Art and Literary Magazine received a first-class designation from the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) during the English department assembly, and advisors introduced the magazine contributors and a QR preview of the upcoming issue.
A Phoenix adviser said the magazine provides “an outlet for individuals to create, read, view, and edit literary and artistic works by Manhasset Secondary School Students” and announced that the publication had been acknowledged with the NCTE realm award first-class designation. The adviser introduced student contributors by name and identified Rob Novak as the Phoenix co-adviser.
Students named onstage included Blair Bai, Mia Chin, Angelina Lu, John McCann, Hong Mi Xiaomie, Michelle Mersa, Sofia Aghala, Sonia Sekhar, Nathaniel Seager, Angeline Legan and Jocelyn Lu. The adviser told attendees that a QR code distributed as people left would allow preview access to the magazine’s near-final draft and that a printed issue was expected in the next week.
The assembly also described the Carrie Sid Awards for artistic expression, named middle- and high-school winners and noted front-cover and feature artwork contributors for the issue. The Phoenix magazine and its advisers emphasized student editorial roles and invited families to share the QR preview and look for the print edition soon.
