The Cottage Grove Plan Commission voted to recommend approval of proposed amendments to Chapter 183 (floodplain zoning) that reflect updates recommended by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
Planning staff explained the changes were a DNR directive for municipalities to update floodplain zoning to match current state law and best practices. "We went through the ordinance, made the changes they recommended, put in the new language they recommended, and we'd recommend approving this," planning staff told the commission.
Commissioners noted that, based on current FEMA mapping, only a few small areas within or near the village are currently shown as floodplain but that future FEMA map updates or village growth could expand how the ordinance applies. The commission voted to recommend the amendment; staff will forward the ordinance to the Wisconsin DNR for review and then present it to the Village Board for final action.
No members asked to amend the staff proposal; the motion to recommend approval (moved by Commissioner Alex, seconded by Commissioner Don) carried by voice vote.
