County holds second public hearing on CDBG application to install fixed generators, telemetry for PSA sites

County staff said the application would fund nine permanent fixed‑mount generators for remote, hard‑to‑reach water sites and would include telemetry and automation upgrades for several tanks and pump stations. "We are partnering with Dickson County Public Service Authority, and they were looking to do 9 permanent fixed mount generators" at locations the presenter listed, including Rakes Ridge, Backbone Ridge 1, Steve's Branch, Rock Creek, Brushy Ridge 1–3, and Hazel 1–2. Staff added the project would also add automation/telemetry for the Ailey, Keith Hollow and Nancy tanks and pump stations and Wakimba pump station.
Staff emphasized the generators and telemetry aim to preserve continuous public water service in extended power outages. The presenter credited local PSA staff and external partners for help preparing the application.
A board member asked who would handle routine maintenance of the generators. County staff replied maintenance would fall to the PSA after installation: "That would fall... under the PSA's purview. After that, it would... the PSA would take over the maintenance after they're installed. Yes." Public comment asked whether the CDBG funding would cover additional relief; staff said this CDBG request is limited by program restrictions to the items presented but noted an anticipated DHCD mitigation program announcement that may provide additional relief.
After the hearing, the board passed a resolution authorizing the county to proceed with the CDBG application process and sign required paperwork.
