Othello School District board appoints Mariah Munoz to vacant seat

The Othello School District Board of Directors voted to fill its vacant seat by appointing Mariah Munoz to board director position No. 2. A motion to accept Munoz was made and seconded during the public meeting; the board approved the appointment by voice and roll call, 4-0.

The appointment was handled during an open session of the board. After the vote, the board said Munoz will not be sworn in at the same meeting because the agenda had already begun; the oath and a photo are scheduled for the next board meeting. “Motion passes 4-0. Welcome to the school board,” a board member said following the tally.

Board members confirmed logistics for graduation and other upcoming events while noting the swearing-in will occur at a later meeting. No additional formal actions related to the appointment were taken at that time.

The appointment fills a board vacancy through the board’s standard appointment process; the board did not take any separate action to alter meeting agendas or immediate committee assignments for the new director.

Board members invited Munoz to attend graduation in the interim and said they will complete the oath of office at the next regular meeting.

Upcoming board calendar items noted at the meeting included high school graduation and a June board meeting; the board did not attach special conditions to Munoz’s appointment at the time of the vote.
