SiteLogic reports progress on high school/middle additions; stadium track depression under remediation

Jason Erb of SiteLogic provided the board with a construction progress report on the high school STEM lab addition, middle-school additions and the stadium project. "The exterior brick masonry is complete," Erb said of the STEM lab, and contractors are moving to window installation and interior mechanical, electrical and plumbing rough-ins. The STEM lab schedule showed roughly 11 days behind but an improvement of 17 days from the prior month; SiteLogic reported no current issue meeting substantial completion for the start of school.

On sitework, crews have been installing storm piping, inlets and sidewalk curbing along Everly and constructing a stormwater retention basin at the corner of Veil and West King. The project summary showed approximately 40 percent invoiced through April and contingency balances of about $244,000.

Erb reported a site issue at the stadium: excavation found trapped groundwater about 4–5 feet down at a depression near the scoreboard; K & W Engineers and a geotechnical consultant recommended adding a French drain to relieve groundwater pressure and monitored backfill before patching blacktop. The remediation work to date has a preliminary cost of roughly $18,000; the general contractor and consultants disagreed about responsibility, and the district has issued a construction change directive for the water-meter-vault work to proceed time-and-materials pending resolution. Track paving and striping were rescheduled after remediation, with track completion anticipated in early July.

Facilities committee items were reported to the full board for consideration: a mini-split HVAC unit for the press box ($3,990) to protect electronics; options for perimeter fencing and gate widening (a complete replacement quote was $106,200, and a single gate-widening option was $810); a protective screen under the front of the stands to prevent falls (quote approximately $12,050); and an estimated cost to build concession/locker/bathroom buildings (rough estimate $1,500,000 with $75,000–$80,000 design fees) based on student drawings the committee circulated for pricing. The committee recommended moving the press box HVAC and the gate-widening quote forward to the next board agenda and also proposed three flagpoles near the scoreboard (three-pole option cost around $17,290) for board action on the following meeting.

Ending: Construction remains active through the summer; remedial work at the stadium track is underway and the facilities committee will bring specific contract and purchase items to the board for formal approval at the next meeting.
