District outlines summer construction, technology and transportation projects; board hears update

Warrick County School Corp staff gave the board a progress update on technology, transportation, maintenance and construction work planned or underway for the summer.
Technology: staff reported updated fiber and server equipment installations at several locations and that the district is preparing about 4,300 Chromebooks for distribution in the new school year; staff member Mister Grimes was noted as assisting with that work.
Transportation: the district is acquiring two low-mileage white buses from Curlin Bus Sales that were turned in with about 25,000 miles; district staff said the buses were available at roughly half the price of new vehicles. The district plans to retire one older high-mileage bus and also expects to receive four new yellow buses by summer’s end as part of normal replacement cycles.
Maintenance and construction: summer projects underway include renovations at Castle, Oakdale, Booneville High and Weck schools; replacements at Sharon; paving and resurfacing at seven locations; roof repairs at Castle North, Booneville, and Tecumseh High; HVAC work at several sites; plumbing at Tecumseh; furniture moves, painting and fence repairs. Staff reported new construction at the maintenance facility, John H. Castle and the WPCC, plus site preparation for a pavilion project. District staff said Centerpoint has received prints and will handle pole placement and power stub work; staff expect the pavilion building to be constructed but could not guarantee electrical service will be active by the start of school.
E-rate: staff reported that current E-rate funding and the E-rate discount for broadband connections remain available to the district; the program had been discussed nationally as potentially subject to reductions but, as of the board update, funding and discounts for equipment and connectivity were still in place.
Board members asked questions about timelines for specific projects (for example, a parking/entryway repair and pavilion power availability). Staff said repairs and projects are on district lists and are expected to be completed before the next school year or by the end of summer where feasible, but specific completion dates were not provided for all items.
