Warrick County School Corp approves reduced asbestos abatement change order for CHS choir room

Warrick County School Corp’s school board on May 12 approved a change order to remove and abate asbestos-containing floor tile and associated mastic in Castle High School’s Choir Room (Room 108).

Board members were told the general contractor, Dike Brothers, submitted Change Order No. 1 to cover asbestos abatement work performed by subcontractor Elite Environmental. The subcontractor will remove 7,381 square feet of asbestos-containing floor tile and 350 linear feet of associated material. The initial proposal totaled $35,203; after applying asbestos contingency funds already included in the project bid, the net change order was presented as $17,179.

The motion to approve the change order was made and seconded; the board voted to carry the motion. The board packet included the change order request and the recommendation to approve it as submitted.

The approval covers only the work described in the change order as presented to the board; no additional project authorizations were recorded during the vote. The board did not identify additional remedial tasks or costs during the discussion recorded in the packet notes.

Board members and staff indicated the contractor and subcontractor arrangements were in place and that existing project contingency dollars were used to reduce the requested amount. No timeline for completion of the abatement was included in the materials presented to the board.

The item will be reflected in the project accounting and the construction schedule for the Castle High School building project.
