NATCHITOCHES, La. — The Natchitoches City Council adopted Resolution 41 of 2025 proclaiming June 2025 as Farmers Market Month in the city and encouraged residents to participate in planned activities.
Councilman Nielsen read the proclamation on May 27 and moved its adoption; the motion was seconded and the council voted yes. The mayor and other council members thanked the community development department and named staff and volunteers who support the market.
Sharon Durham and Shauna LaBroom, city program staff, were cited during remarks. “Our farmers market started a couple of weeks ago. We've had a pretty consistent crowd. All of our vendors have shown a profit. We've also added a few new vendors, so we're growing,” Shauna LaBroom said during the meeting. The mayor and council also noted a donation from the Bank of Montgomery to support a kids club at the market.
The proclamation recognizes the market’s economic and health benefits, references participation in the Central Louisiana network of farmers markets, and urges citizens to support local vendors. Council members arranged for photos with staff and vendors following the proclamation.
