Commissioners approve $5-per-user cybersecurity training for officials and employees

The Hardin County Commissioners Court approved an HR request to enroll county officials and employees who use a computer for at least 25% of their duties in a 2025 cybersecurity training course provided by the Texas Association of Counties for $5 per user.
Belinda Harrington, the county’s HR director, asked the court to “enroll all Hardin County Officials and employees with access to a government commuter system, or database into the cyber security training course for 2025, provided by the Texas Association of Counties for a fee of $5 per user.” She said the training is “applicable to all who use a computer to perform at least 25% of the officials or the employees required duties pursuant to section 2 0 5 4 4.5191 of the government code.”
Commissioners asked about the deadline; a speaker answered “August 31.” A motion to approve the enrollment and fee was made by Commissioner Kuykendahl, seconded by Commissioner Cooper; the motion passed on a voice vote of “Aye.” The court indicated employees will have about two weeks to complete the course after rollout and that new hires will be assigned the training later.
