Sheboygan Area School District recognizes student achievements across academics, language and athletics

The Sheboygan Area School District Board of Education recognized multiple student groups and coaches for regional, state and national achievements in academics, language and athletics. Presenters included teachers and coaches who described awards, competition placements and school records.
Jennifer Meyer, high school math teacher and National Honor Society advisor, presented the quiz bowl team and said the team "came in fifth" at the Lake Sturgeon Bowl and won a sportsmanship award that financed a field trip to the Maritime Museum and a visit to Two Rivers. Ben Crowell, the long-time forensics coach at Sheboygan South, highlighted state and national placements, saying the team sent five students to state finals and that "Derek Sheehan...was state champion in the category of oratory" and that several students qualified for national tournaments, with Derek placing 13th at nationals in original oratory.
Kevin Formolo, principal at South High School, and John Maczek, principal at North High School, spoke about student success in the Wisconsin Chinese Speech Contest and other language recognitions; the transcript lists many student placings across levels and named Sheboygan students who won first-, second- and third-place awards at the competition held April 12 at UW–Milwaukee.
Peter Tunhoff, representing the South High swim and dive program, reported multiple state qualifiers and that the team set a school record in the 200-yard medley relay. Leanne Meader Jensen described Education Pathway student contributions and named specific students recognized for their work in programs such as Educators Rising and Art for Youth. Dance coach Danielle Callahan told the board that the Sheboygan North varsity dance team is "our third time in 4 years being D1 state's hip hop champions," and she read a roster of dancers the board honored.
The recognitions were presented with certificates and brief remarks; the board did not take separate formal actions on the recognitions during the meeting.
