The Calcasieu Parish Planning and Zoning Board voted May 20 to grant a variance allowing a second dwelling on property at 190 Buehler Station Road in Ward 6, despite the parcel falling short of the parish's required lot size.
Planning staff recommended approval, saying the development is "consistent with the character of the area," and asked the board to attach conditions including adherence to the site plan on file with the Division of Planning and Development, allowing the director or designee to authorize technical adjustments during development, and requiring the manufactured home be skirted prior to utilities being connected.
The applicant, listed as Darlene Williams et al., asked the board to permit a second dwelling on a parcel for which the ordinance requires 87,120 square feet; the applicant requested approval for 52,707.6 square feet. Planning staff presented the site plan and noted minimal expected impacts.
Board member Latricia Cobb moved to approve the variance; board member Janelle Hyatt seconded. The board took a voice vote and the motion passed. The record shows no organized opposition at the meeting.
The approval carries the conditions recommended by staff and permits the applicant to proceed subject to any technical adjustments authorized by the planning director. Any future changes beyond those adjustments would require further review by the Division of Planning and Development or return to the board.
