Board adopts Title I, Part A parent-family engagement policy and approves 2026-27 calendar framework

Carrie presented the policy changes as minor organizational edits and the addition of "Part A" language after references to Title I. Student advisers Nathan and Disha provided advisory votes in favor; the board then moved the policy to adoption. Director Kelly moved for adoption; Director Watts seconded. Directors voted in favor and the policy was adopted on second reading.
On the proposed 2026-27 key-calendar dates, district staff explained that because Labor Day in 2026 falls late, administrators preferred a start date immediately before Labor Day (creating a short first week and preserving the holiday weekend). The board discussed the tradeoffs and accepted the recommendation after receiving advisory input from student advisers in support of the earlier start. Director Diamond moved to approve the calendar framework and Director Knapp seconded; the motion carried.
Both actions were routine items on the agenda and drew no amendments. Board members asked staff to circulate finalized calendars and to note the dates of PD events that align with PTA and community calendars. The student advisers will provide advisory reports in coming meetings on student reactions to calendar timing and policy impacts.
