Lexington County Council's committee of the whole voted unanimously to send a letter to the South Carolina Department of Transportation requesting permission to close the southbound direction of the dam for the county's annual "Dining on the Dam" event on Sept. 21, 2025, with Oct. 5, 2025, as an alternate date in case of inclement weather.
The committee discussed the request and the county's coordination with the Lexington County Sheriff's Department for traffic control. The committee decided unanimously to approve sending the letter requesting SCDOT assistance for a partial closure on the specified date(s).
Vice Chair Conwell made the motion to send the letter; the motion was seconded and approved by roll call. The council did not record any public opposition or additional conditions in the meeting; staff will transmit the letter to SCDOT and coordinate logistics with law enforcement if permission is granted.
