City Utilities Committee on May 27 reviewed and advanced an ordinance authorizing the mayor or his designee to enter into a contract with Brown Equipment Company for $500,000 to purchase a new Ram back ("Ramback HX9TA" in the committee packet) utility vehicle. The committee called for the legislation and the item was placed on the legislative agenda that evening.
Committee chair Griffin introduced the pending legislation and asked the committee to call it for passage; members moved and seconded the request. The City Council later took up the ordinance during the regular legislative meeting, suspended the rules and adopted the ordinance by roll call. The ordinance was recorded in the legislative minutes as adopted with the recorded affirmative votes.
The purchase funds and capital classification were included in the ordinance title as presented to the committee and council. Committee members said the unit would support utility department work; the item was presented as urgent and adopted under emergency provisions.
