Bethel Park students review SGA year; four seniors win U.S. service academy appointments

Bethel Park — Student Government Association representatives gave the Bethel Park School District board a year-in-review of clubs, activities and academic offerings, and district leaders publicly recognized four seniors who received appointments to U.S. service academies.
The SGA presentation covered academic opportunities, extracurricular growth and school culture initiatives. “We offer college in high school courses that are from Robert Morris, Pitt and Carlow University,” student representative Caleb Bush said, summarizing advanced-course options. Student services coordinator Elsa Bonovic described recent music and activities trips and new clubs, including a girls engineering club that has led STEM outreach events.
The board also marked what the district called a milestone: four members of the class of 2025 received appointments to U.S. service academies. At the meeting, a district presenter named the students as Rocco Capizzoli, Brady McKiernan, Clancy Horry and Aaron Hoffbauer and said three have Naval Academy appointments and one will attend the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
Rocco Capizzoli and Brady McKiernan spoke briefly at the meeting. “This has been such a great community to grow up in,” Capizzoli said. Brady McKiernan thanked staff including the AP coordinator and the counseling office, saying the “staff at Bethel Park High School ... really pushed us to do this.” The board presented certificates to the students.
SGA leaders emphasized school spirit and plans to increase club collaboration and freshman engagement next year. Treasurer Grace Perziola described monthly “lead days,” when students choose activities outside the regular curriculum. Joanna Little, the current SGA presidential advisor and incoming SGA president, listed recent SGA events including charity drives and Wish Week and said the group aims to “get more collaboration between the clubs and just get more people involved, especially the incoming freshmen.”
The district also recognized SGA advisor Mr. Kaye: a board member said he was selected as Student Government Association Advisor of the Year for the district, which the presenter described as a rare honor.
The recognition and SGA presentation were part of the regular board meeting agenda and did not include formal board action beyond presentation and the awarding of certificates.
