Committee members reviewed a county proposal at the May 27 meeting to create a cooperative of municipalities for countywide damage assessment during large emergencies and disasters.
City staff explained the memorandum of understanding would allow participating communities to designate two people to join a countywide damage-assessment consortium. The agreement is voluntary: cities would not be required to release personnel for incidents in their own jurisdiction, but could provide staff if another municipality were affected.
City staff suggested possible designees such as Scott (head of emergency government) and a lieutenant from the police department as examples of roles that could serve in the consortium. The committee did not take formal action; staff said the item would come forward to the Common Council as a resolution for consideration.
Committee members generally agreed the idea made sense as a regional preparedness measure and asked staff to prepare a resolution and the MOU language for a future council vote.
