Beaufort County gives status updates on capital projects; MC Riley pool eyed for June 1 opening

Beaufort County staff gave the Public Facilities Committee a status update on multiple capital projects across the county.
Robert Getze said interior renovations to the administrative suite and county council chambers are underway and that change orders will be presented to committee as needed. He reported the May 9 grand opening of the Southside Pickleball and basketball courts and said the new facility is “absolutely packed.”
Getze told the committee that MC Riley Pool is near final construction and staff are completing punch-list items in preparation for a Department of Health and Environmental Control inspection; the anticipated opening date is June 1 if the DHEC inspection is successful. He said the detention center repair project is running roughly two weeks ahead of schedule and the Bluffton Recreation Center construction schedule will be pushed back to avoid displacing summer-camp activities, with construction slated for August.
Other updates included Sun City Station 39 exterior HOA approval and final interior floor plans, resubmittal of dock permitting for Okatie River Park after a 50-foot shift in dock location to respond to erosion, and pending engineering drawings for elevator-shaft adjustments at the Bluffton Recreation Center. Getze also reported Pine View Preserve variances were approved by the Zoning Board of Appeals and a coastal-zone consistency permit had been submitted earlier in the year.
Committee members asked for clarification about district locations and follow-up on outstanding design materials; Getze answered questions about process and where to send inquiries. The update was informational; no committee action was required.
Ending: staff said most projects are moving forward and will return to committee for change-order approvals when necessary.
