Flagler Education Foundation reports $600,000 in scholarships, $95,000 raised at anniversary dinner

Teresa Rizzo, executive director of the Flagler County Education Foundation, told the school board May 27 that the foundation delivered 231 scholarships this year, up from 191 scholarships the previous year, totaling more than $600,000 — an increase of about $100,000 over the prior year.
Rizzo said the foundation’s 30th‑anniversary dinner drew more than 175 community members and raised $95,000 for the foundation’s Make It Happen Fund, exceeding a $85,000 fundraising goal. She said funds from the Make It Happen Fund support programs including FIT (Families in Transition), which helps students experiencing homelessness.
Rizzo outlined other recent foundation activities: student wellness events (including CPR training and a field trip to AdventHealth’s simulation lab), the Beaver Toyota student of the year award (which provides a gaming system and laptop to the recipient), and scholarship surprise nights that delivered the scholarships across two evenings. She thanked community partners and noted the foundation aims to distribute more than 2,000 starter backpacks next school year through its “stuff the bus” drives in June and July; the foundation will maintain a drop box on the supply bus for 24/7 donations.
Board members and the superintendent thanked the foundation for fundraising and community engagement; Rizzo asked the district to continue coordinating with the foundation during the summer on funding opportunities to meet student needs.
